Homemade Fruit Salad Recipes
Making fruit salad can be enjoyable, satisfying and rewarding. Although you can basically use any types of fruits such as oranges, apples, plums, pears, bananas and grapes, you want to try to limit the number of fruits you use in a salad because having too many fruits in the same salad can cause a conflict of tastes.
If you can't get fresh fruits easily in your area, you can always use canned fruits or a combination of both if possible.
If you have some vegetables in the fridge, why not use them in your fruit salad too? Most fruit salad recipes allow you to mix certain type of vegetables such as carrots, beets and peas with fruits such as apples, bananas, cranberries, pineapples, raisins to produce a more balanced and healthy salad.
Below is a simple and delicious homemade fruit salad recipe you can make easily for your family and friends to enjoy:
Ingredients:
- 1 can (20 oz) pineapple chunks
- 2 quarts red apples, chopped
- 1 1/2 cups pecans, toasted
- 2 cups green seedless grapes, halved
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 cup celery
For dressing:
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 stick butter
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 cup mayonnaise
Instructions:
1. First, drain the pineapple chunks in place them in a large bowl. Do not throw away the juice because you're going to use it for the dressing part. Add in the red apples, pecans, grapes, parsley and celery.
2. In a sauce pan, pour in the pineapple juice and stir in the lemon juice, sugar and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
3. In a mixing bowl, add in the cornstarch and some water. Combine and mix well to form a smooth mixture then add into the sauce pan with the boiling juice.
4. Switch to low heat and let it cook until the mixture is thick and smooth. Let it cool down for a few minutes then whisk in the mayonnaise.
5. Pour in the chilled dressing into the large bowl with fruits. Mix well. Serve.
